"Longmen grottoes 龙门石窟"
CHINA COLLECTION #9
“Longmen grottoes 龙门石窟" began on location, but I quickly had to move due to the heat, and forgetting sunscreen. The Longmen Grottoes, located in Luoyang are a UNESCO World Heritage site in China, home to thousands of intricate Buddhist statues and carvings dating back to the 5th century. When I arrived at the particular grotto pictured here, a university class was also sketching—that’s what initially inspired me to sit down. I joined them in the 34-degree heat and had a chat, but I barely finished the preliminary sketch before realising it wouldn’t be feasible to stay. After a while of unsuccessfully trying to balance my umbrella and paints, I left to finish the piece in Luoyang Old Town.
I realised that the red seal acts as a focal point, and placing it too close to the edge of a painting can pull the viewer’s eye away. So in this piece, I chose to position the seal more centrally to balance the blue umbrella and help keep your focus within the artwork.
Each artwork will be signed dated and sent in a secure envelope.
Each print will also be signed and numbered.
Materials and Dimensions:
Original: 180x260mm , 300gsm Cotton Watercolour Paper framed in basic white frame.
Print: B5, quality paper: Hahnemule German Etch 310gsm
